The
Church is composed of people who are highly
dichotomized in their understanding, or
hopefully just emphasis (I am being charitable),
of the faith. There are those who look
to the social and political versus those
who look to the moral and spiritual. There
are those who emphasize heroism but not
holiness. There are those who strive for
nation-building rather than Kingdom-building.
The former has made the Church a great
instrument for social change, but the
latter is what her true mission is. In
fact, emphasis on the former apart from
the latter weakens her as she fails to
fulfill her mandate on earth.
True the gates of hell will not prevail
against the Church, but how many more
need to be lost as Catholics fail to
do her task?
The Holy Father speaks out clearly as
the holy prophet that he is. We must
not only listen, but we must carry out
our mission, including speaking prophetically
ourselves about the enemy within.
