– In an open letter “on
behalf of all Ohio parents,”
American United for Life (AUL)
asks Senator Barack Obama to
explain his
radical position on abortion,
particularly regarding his promise
immediately to sign the Freedom
of Choice Act (FOCA), should
he be elected to the presidency.
FOCA
is a pro-abortion piece of legislation
first introduced in the late
1980’s that has since
received strong support from
pro-abortion politicians such
as Barbara Boxer and Hilary
Clinton.
AUL
calls FOCA
a “tremendous threat to
the rights of everyday Americans,
to women, and to the unborn.”
The pro-life organization refers
to the fact that FOCA would
annihilate all previously instated
restrictions on abortion, such
as parental consent legislation,
freedom of conscience for religious
medical practitioners and hospitals,
and previous limits on public
funding for abortions.
The legislation would also pave
the way for non-physicians to
commit abortions.
Theoretically,
AUL writes, under FOCA “a
12-year old girl could have
a late-term abortion performed
on her by an under-qualified
non-physician without her parents’
knowledge. The parents would
have no opportunity to speak
to the abortion provider about
their daughter’s medical
history, and they would have
no opportunity to make arrangements
for her follow-up care.”
AUL
relates the true story of a
14-year-old girl who was impregnated
by her 21-year-old soccer coach.
The girl was brought to a Planned
Parenthood abortuary by the
coach and her baby was aborted,
all without the knowledge of
the girl’s parents. AUL
points out that currently 36
states have parental notification
laws in place, and queries,
“Senator
Obama, why do you oppose these
parental involvement laws that
protect our children from sexual
abuse?”
The
letter concludes by questioning
the Democratic presidential
candidate: “Why
have you promised Planned Parenthood
that the first piece of legislation
you will sign is the Freedom
of Choice Act, a piece of abortion
legislation which would eliminate
ALL of the common-sense parental
involvement laws across the
country?”
